My Last Conference

So for the first 10 years of my career I have worked for NALS…the association for legal professionals.  I have served as their communications and marketing director for the duration of my tenure and it has been a great ride.  NALS is made up of some wonderful people who treat their staff better than anything.

Today is the start of my last conference working for NALS.  I am kicking things off with a group of people who were hand-picked as some of the top thinkers in the organization. We are working on evaluating the entire association and coming up with ideas for ways to move them forward so they can stay strong and viable for the future.  We call this group the NALS Think Tank.  While I am going to continue working with NALS in a consulting role this will be the start of my last two official weeks as a member of the NALS staff.

Conferences are always a two-edges sword for me.  I work mainly to keep things running smoothly and handle a lot of the logistics on site at the conference which often has been running wild in the back halls of hotels and convention centers.  It can be a very stressful time.  The other edge is that I get to see some amazing people and catch up with them.  Many of these people I only see and talk to once, maybe twice, a year.  I am going to miss that.  It is a good time to see people you genuinely like after you have not conversed for an extended period of time.  This week will mark one of the last times I get to do that.

So if you are at the NALS conference this week, take the time to meet new people, build new relationships and have a good time.  You don’t know when or if you will see those people again, make the most of it.

Awww man! Now I am bummed even more that I can’t go ’cause I won’t get to say good-bye. You were the one who brought me in to NALS and I am sooo appreciative. You took a chance on me and now I am a part of a great organization. We will miss you much, but I am glad you will still be involved on a small scale. I wish I could have been part of the think tank. it sounds awesome. Good luck with your new adventure! Oh darn it! Now who am I going to tease and annoy at the conferences?

I know…that experiment paid off for everyone! I am going to be speaking at the Cincinnati conference and will still be around on occasion.
